When it was available, the Pioneer 105S slot loading DVD ROM drive looked like a good buy. Slot loading is more convenient than tray loading and the drive was reasonably priced.
So I bought 3 of these drives - one for my main home cinema PC, one for my main work PC and one in the living room HCPC.
18 or so months on, all 3 have failed. When trying to insert a DVD, the unit clatters and spits the disc back out. Forcing the disc in usually means it works 1 time out of half a dozen. But then sometimes when it spins up it makes a hell of a racket and several DVDs have emerged from the unit badly scratched.
I phoned Pioneer support and curiously they have never heard of the problem. I don't believe that.
Also Pioneer have stopped slot loading DVD ROM drive production. hmmmm.
Once bitten, twice shy. I'm never buyiing another Pioneer ROM drive.
