This week I purchased a region 2 DV585 from pixmania.com at a decent price, expecting upon receipt it would be a simple unlock process for multiregion, by using my local Pioneer dealer's service remote.

I've encountered a problem however. His service remote will unlock any of his own UK stock DV585's - but not my player! Mine appears not to accept/recognise the code it's being sent from the service remote.

    :(

Can anyone provide an explanation please? My player's serial number begins with EFK and ends with YY. Is that any clue? The player is functioning fine.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can assist. I'd rather unlock this player than sell it and buy a new one. It's within its '7 day can be returned for any reason' period with pixmania, but it's £38 to post it to their returns department in France. I wondered about posting it to their 'pickup' location in London, but I've not been able to get through to them to confirm whether or not they'd be happy with this. Again, if anyone has used this latter option to return goods to pixmania, please let me know.

    Thanks all.

    :)

NX3 - thanks very much indeed for your reply and for the link :)

I presume you're referring me to the post by martyras within that thread describing how to download multi-region codes for a DV585 to a Symbian phone and then using IR to update the DVD player.

This might be helpful - who knows, but the codes might be the same as those in my dealers service remote which were no good for my player.

On the off-chance the DV585 multi-region codes are different / might work, I could have a shot at what's suggested - if I knew anyone who could lend me a Symbian phone - but being sad - I don't!

    :(

    Sure thing.

But all of this leaves me none the wiser as to why my the codes programmed into my dealer's service remote unlock for multiregion ANY of his UK stock of Pioneer DV585's, but why the same service remote will not work with my own DV585 supplied by pixmania ...???

Strange thing this, but some of the Black DV-585's have been exhibiting the same problem here, the Silver ones are fine but, some of the Black ones won't play ball. We just assumed them to be faulty, perhaps they have updated firmware....?

These are players supplied directly from Pioneer UK BTW, we are Works dealers....

    Ok.

The DV-585 I have is a Silver one and it's only just arrived from pixmania.

Does anyone have the latest DV-585 firmware - modified for multi-region - for downloading to CD please?

    :)

    Many thanks in advance!

Not wishing to rub salt in the wounds....BUT maybe you should have bought a M/R DV-575 from Richersounds instead ??
If you have no joy in making your 585 M/R, and if you can send it back without incurring to much cost to yourself, I can heartily recommend the 575 to anyone as a great player. The 585 did'nt get the best write-up in WHAT HI-FI, but saying that, time and technology has moved on since the 575 was reviewed, and maybe the competition has moved up a gear since then.

    All the best,

    Graham.

Well the DV-585 out of the box plays dual-layer DVDs. A DV-575 requires a firmware upgrade which Richer Sounds don't offer.

My dealer appeared to have no probs making DV-585s multi-region ...

.... but that was before he tried his remote with my DV-585 :D

Any help appreciated.. there must be someone out there .... :)

 Not heard that before. Presume you mean some kind of recordable dual layer medium rather than standard dual layer DVDs?...PJ :)

As I underatand the situation, the DV-575 - according to Pioneer - was not designed to play DL DVD-R disks, but does play DL DVD+R disks... see

    http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=147720

DV-585 does both out of the box.

But I don't want to get off topic .. :) ... just want to get this DV-585 playing multi-region asap!
