Pioneer DV444 - poor picture : sorted!

    I found that routing my video signal through my JVC SVHS deck (which is connected to the hifi), worsened the picture - colour and resolution affected.
    This seemed to be because the DVD player was turned on after the SVHS deck, rather than before, and therefore not detecting the video signal correctly.

    Another issue was the Sony TV used was not autodetecting 16:9, it had to be manually switched to "wide".

    Despite this, scart passthru still gave a better picture than via the SVHS VCR. Improved colour etc.

    I'm looking into decoding the sound via optical or coax to an external DAC.
