I bought a pioneer dv400, i am connecting it through hdmi.

I tweaked all the options as per the post on first page of Samsungr88/87 settings post in the LCD section. I am playing the dvd in 720p mode.

Can anybody please help me with the settings with pioneer dv 400 . At the moment dvd image is quite substandard compared my my sky sd.

The picture quality is much better when i play the same dvd using my mac mini via hdmi-dvi cable.

Please suggest me a solution, getting pretty desperate. Had a row with my girlfriend on this player. Picture quality is only way to prove this was good purchase.

thanks for that blackbird. Another problem. I downloaded some HD 720p clips from stage 6 in divx format. When i want to play it through USB or through CD, i get error message "The video resolution of this file in not supported"

I am connecting my pioneer dv400-k through HDMI. I tried with a mp3 player via usb no joy same is the case with CD-rw.

    Mp3 player has FAT32 format.

I am getting frustrated with the player.

    Please suggest a possible solution.

Just started reading the online manual and noticed

    "PC-created disc compatibility
Discs recorded using a personal computer
may not be playable in this unit due to the
setting of the application software used to
create the disc. In these particular instances,
check with the software publisher for more
    detailed information.
Discs recorded in packet write mode (UDF
format) are not compatible with this player.
Check the DVD-R/-RW or CD-R/-RW software
    disc boxes for additional"

Don't know if that may be an issue...........will continue reading.....................further reading suggests that the USB will only play jpegs & 2 channel audio from memory sticks etc through the USB not video files

With regards to DIVX I'm afraid the player does not play HD Divx files. only standard.

Indeed, this is not HD player, so it is not capable of playing HD content. It can only upscale standart (or less) resolution content.

I use this player for some 3-4 months and I am very satisfied both with the quality of picture and palying almost anything you throw at it.

I have a R88 with a Xoro 8430 DVD player at 720p and I use these settings except DNIE: OFF and Noise Reduction :LOW or OFF. I have found the picture to be the best I believe I can get out of SD. Have you tried these?

Try with everything turned off on the Pioneer and then turn on each one to see if any improvement.

I've ofton found most enhancements on DVD players or TV's ofton worsen the picture. DnIE on the Samsung TV I found makes the colours all abnormal and cause Noise on the picture.

P.s Make sure you have the pictures size as "Just Scan" at 720p that way your supposed to get 1:1 Pixel Mapping even on a 768p TV.

If your picture looks worse at 720p than Sky SD then I suggest you set the HDMI connection on the DV400 to 576i and see what it looks like. After that, compare it to 576p and see which looks better.

    S.

(at 576i you are bypassing both deinterlacing and scaling in your player (at 576p only scaling) and you are effectively leaving it to your TV)

Quick off-topic question regarding the dv400. Does it come with a hDMI cable? If not, what should I be looking to buy? The different types confuse me
