So I'm confused by my DVD player...

When watching most movies, having my TV in 16:9 mode makes the movies be in the correct aspect ratio.

However, when watching 4:3 shows, I have to put it into 4:3 mode... and when watching certain other movies that are widescreen, 16:9 mode doesn't look right (vertically squished) and when I put it in 4:3 mode, there's black bars around the top, bottom, left and right of the picture.

It's almost like for certain movies it's playing in 4:3 Letterbox mode, while others it plays in the correct 16:9 format (which is what my "Initial Settings" video output is set at)

Any ideas? Does it change for movies that aren't anamorphic or something?

    Confused... thanks.
