I have been playing avi files on my pc and when I burn them onto a dvd they still play ok. The problem is when I play them on my Pioneer DV-575A the backing track is ok but any speech is really muted. It does'nt happen every time and the only differance I can see is the audio bit rate of the files. The ones with a lower bit rate seem to play ok. Is ther a work round this? I don't really want to have to reconvert my files. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like an audio encoding problem, what was the source of the files and what software did you used to encode it, My best guess is that your files has a 5.1 sound track and your reproducing via a 2 channel system.

Have you tried to set the player to down mix to 2 channel? You may need to recode the files and set the audio into a 2 channel mix.
