Has anyone else had any problems with this player?

Watched Blade Trinity over the weekend, extended cut with DTS-ES. Needed to pause it part way in but could I? Oh no, because yet again it's stopped responding to any commands/buttons except for eject, even power doesn't work, also when this happens Last Memory doesn't work so I have to skip through it again.

Second instance, got part of the way through the film and it suddenly ground to a halt where Blade and Dracula are on top of the buildings with that baby. Stop the disc..yet again the Last Memory failed to function...go back to the same point and lo and behold it played this time.

Someone please tell me it's worth spending £500 on a Denon DVD-2910 over this piece of sh!!e.

Yep, I bought the Pioneer and took it back straight away.

It froze up exactly like you describe, especially on DVDs with complex authoring structures and DVD-Rs. The horrendous noise the transport made and the poor build quality weren't expected either. When it played, performance was good though.

Do yourself a favour and get a refund. I can heartily recommend Philips budget DVD players, or splash out on a Sony DVP-LS785 or Harman Kardon DVD22 (both just over £100). I'd even prefer them to Denon's more expensive offerings...

I've never heard of any issues like this on the 575. Though by now Pioneer may not be high on your list!...PJ :)

Cheers! I wondered if I was the only one :) It was so very close to becoming a mangled piece of garbage over the weekend as it did it so much!

Definitely after DVD-A and SACD so will be hunting around!

Same here, my 470 has given me nothing but smooth playback.
The only problem I had was with Divx files not displaying but that was down to the file name length, never had the player freeze up during playback of a dvd/r/rw or stop responding, sounds like a faulty unit.

It did it once early on but I thought it might be a glitch but I think I'll double check I have the box and see if I can send it back.

pinkprobegt, what version firmware have you got on your 470 ? Have you updated to the latest version ? Search this forums for postings me me and you'll find all the info. If you need the latest firmware PM me as I've got it on the original CD by Pioneer.

"To get the firmware version of your player you need to highlight the word 'Options' in the set-up menu, then press display on your remote control"

2.09 is the latest update from Pioneer.

Sigh....thanks for the idea but my player refuses to load the disc. I already have the 470 firmware (never got round to upgrading) and burnt it onto a disc, it just says Can't Play Disc :(

I set it to ISO9660 (not Joliet), Mode 1 and burn at once at the slowest speed (8x) in Nero.

A lot of people had that problem burning the disc cause of the format used. I have the image in Nero format, you can't go wrong then. Its just a case of reburning the image, your machine can be updated honestly. PM me if your interested.

My 470 was a terrible machine. The deck would lock up for no apparent reason, audio would sometimes drop out completely or become horribly distorted and a few discs (mostly from Warner) would freeze or not even play! After three months I gave up and flogged it on ebay. After the near bulletproof performance of my previous Pioneer (a DV525) I was very disappointed. I now have a Panasonic S97, and it's a fine machine.
