There will be new model out in October but I don't know what the changes will be. I suspect that given the current prices you can get an AX5i at the new model which will inevitably sell for full retail price initially will not be worth it.

As far as I know the notable upgrades will be:

    - Dolby Pro Logic IIx
    - Video converter
    - Carbon Chassis

It should be launching around September/October.

    thanks !
the video converter function < or lack thereof > is the one reason that has made me look at other brands / models . . . if the AX5i has it now , then I wouldn't have to look elsewhere.

would you know if the new feature would be just for converting any video input to component or if it includes some kind of video processing/upconversion chip from faroudja or the like similar to what harman Kardon's AVR 7300 does ?

    thanks agsin for your reply

I certainly hope the new unit offers more than these; its a rather anemic upgrade otherwise.

Sorry bayonic - I don't know more than that. I got this info about a month back but details were sketchy those were the details that the Pioneer rep knew at the time.

sounds simple - I agree the upgrades don't seem that great. I'm hoping there'll be some kind of DVI switching or even HDMI?

Does anybody know if they will be updating the AX3 around the same time as the AX5. If so I will wait and get the AX3 at a lower price than is currently advertised.
