How long is the warranty on a Pioneer VSA E-07? I have one 2nd hand that doesn't work, I didn't buy it just borrowing from work, made in October 1999. Is it still in warranty?

    Cheers anyone!

ReTro, I have an E07 at home. I can't recall what the warranty period is but I'll check tonight and let you know.

You say it was made in October 1999, but when was it purchased?

    Retro, sorry about the delay!

Pioneer European warranty is 1 year from original date of purchase.

It had a problem with the DSP board, which turned ou to be incorrectly sitting in it's slot on the mainboard.

It has since been returned to it's owner, which is a shame...

My 18 month old Pioneer VSX 908 has the same problem.

None of the 5.1 indicators come on and the speaker set-up mode is also not working.

The internal AC-3 decoder is essentially dead to the world (although I can make a very interesting effect where all the surround channels are downmixed to the front stereo pair), but very occasionally kicks in for an hour or so.

It's back at Pioneer for a second visit at the moment. They've got lots of theories (damaged optical cable, loose board) but no answers. Thank goodness for the extended warranty.

The extended warranty I have is on the basis of repair or replace. Their agent has had it for three months and there's no sign of an early repair. I think I'm going to try and persuade the insurance company to write it off, but they won't want to as a replacement will cost them a lot because of the THX badge.

    Neil --

Any equipment can go back to Pioneer for repair, but the insurer's repairer only sends stuff back that they can't fix (like anything with lasers or digits).

I miscounted - it's only 2 months; just seems like longer. And I had it back for a week in the middle after Pioneer had replaced the DSP board, bench-soaked it for a week and claimed it was fixed. It was delivered back to me and only worked intermittently over a weekend before I boxed it up and sent it straight back. That was two weeks ago.

Luckily I still have my old amp., which is why I'm still sane. If it was the big telly, I'd have spilt blood by now.

I wonder if the E07 has the same AC-3 chipset or 5.1 distribution board, or is it just coincidental that the speaker test goes dead on both machines?

No I don't know either. Still, word is they've found the fault (a different one, they claim) and I expect to get it back this week. :(

Yes, although the policy is with an outfit called Domestic and General. Pioner cover the first year. D&G pick up the next three years.

Pioneer have said that the unit has failed its test, and I can't have it back yet.

I've now placed the matter in the hands of the insurer's special forces in an effort to get it written off.

No, the whole unit has behaved itself pretty well for the last 12 months, has been exposed to a room move, lots of brick dust and daily use; although most of the time the AC3 board isn't on of course.

I wonder if we were just unlucky with Pioneer service, or whether there are other disenchanted Pioneer AV owners out there.
