Hi
I have a pioneer a400 amplifier and just recently i've noticed that when i turn the volume control fairly quickly there is a slight crackle from the left speaker. If i move it ever so slowly there is no crackle. The obvious answer here i know is to not turn the control quickly but could anyone advise what may be causing this and maybe suggest a solution?

Thanks

It sounds like you may have some dirt/dust in the volume potentiometer. Try squirting a little contact cleaner into the pot and see if that helps.

Hi
I know its been a while but just got hold of some contact cleaner, do i need to disassemble anything to clean the potentiometer(apart from taking the lid off i mean)

Thanks

What sort of potentiometers are used for the volume controls?

Can you take a photo?

Hi
I'm afraid my camera is not very good, hope you can make this out..

I have sprayed the potentiometer with servisol super 10 switch cleaning stuff, it has had the desired effect(no crackle) whilst doing so i managed to spray quite a lot onto the PCB! Will this cause any problems??

It quickly evaporates and is obviously non-conductive so it won't be a problem.

Glad to hear it did the job.
