pioneer 989 over component

    is anyone using this player connected via component,just wondering what the picture is like compared to hdmi ,as i may use component to my screenplay 7205 when sky hd arrives

    Hi Bryan. Hope you're well. :)

    I haven't seen it myself, but Gandley in his review of the 989 said the 3910 was better over component than the 989. But said HDMI on the 989 was better than both HDMI & component on the 3910. Don't know if this helps at all? Hopefully someone else can give you something more concrete.

    I've found there to be little or no difference between component and HDMI output of the 989 when running at 720x480/576, although the HDMI output allows you to scale beyond this resolution.

    so does this mean ill not get 1280-720 over component as i do via hdmi

    Correct, component out only supports 720x480/576 i/p.

    If the scaling of your PJ is any good i doubt you will see much difference (as it will scale to 1280x720 anyway). For me HDMI was a little sharper, but that may not be the same for every projector. But in truth i doubt you would see much difference. I did think the 3910 via component was a little better (as long as you dont see MBE).
