Need to go home and have a good play, but when testing my new Pioneer 812 last night I couldn't get DVD's to play in Dolby Digital.

    DTS from DVD - fine

Dolby Digital from Xbox - fine

Dolby Digital from DVD - goes to Prologic II ?

    Any ideas

Have you missed a setting in the DVD player for Dolby Digital? It should be set to Bitstream.

Other things I can think of:

Have you selected the Dolby track on the DVD itself? Is the amp set to AUTO?

Is it connected via analogue leads as well? Maybe it's picking that signal up instead.

    :)

well the xbox test would seem to rule out the amp and disc from being the problem.. I would look at settings on the dvd player.. though it does seem strange that dts would be enabled but not dd.

I've been out of AV too long !

I remember the player having a setting of PCM for DD - I will change to bitstream

    Cheers

when the DD dvd is playing, try pressing the 'standard' button on the remote. This should 'force' DD on the amp if a DD signal is being received.

If all of the above fails, when playing a DVD, push the signal select button located behind the pull down flap.
