I have just had a reply back from Pioneer as regards to making the Pioneer 757 pal progressive, here it is:

    Response (Customer Relations) - 12/05/2003 02:26 PM
please be advised that we have no plans to offer an upgrade to make the 757Ai
PAL progressive but there might be one or two companies out there somewhere that
    will.
please check the home cinema magazines for adverts,or try a search on the
    internet for further info
    on this option.

    regards.

Techtronics are now selling their much waited for mod which includes PAL Progressive and Macro/CGMS disabling. Only problem is the price, to get a pre-modded player it's about £250 more and for them to mod your R2 player it's just under £300 more:rotfl: :rotfl:  :hiya:

I'll probably be better going for a 656 linked to an Iscan pro/ultra - cheaper and better performance (I think).

    Regards,

I agree the picture quality has to be cheaper and better.

However do you really think the 5.1 dolby digital surround quality for movies will be as good as the 757? (ignoring SACD or DVD Audio for now)

It all depends what you want really.

    Better Picture or Better Sound.

Or you could just wait until Pioneer release the next batch of players, that will no doubt hal PAL PROG, and hopefully with no Chroma bug!!!

Yeah but putting aside the chroma bug (non-)issue ... a 757 (or even 656) with an iscan will probably still be better than the replacement they build even if it does have PAL Prog built in. Anyway the 757 hasn't been around that long so you're probably look at least another 6-9months for it's replacement.

Pioneer's players seam to have a longer shelf life than people like Toshiba.

it's a shame, but i was already expecting this ending.

they know they make more money if releasing a new player with pal prog.

but it's poor costumer support if it could be done by firmware upgrade as they make it believe.

when 757 went out pal prog was already there and so, if they release a prog scan player but it's only NTSC and the player is locked to region 2, what's the point... ????????

No chroma bug? We talked about this when I had a 626, we have had the 636, 646 and now 656, they all have bugs!

Pioneer longer shelf lives, that made me chuckle :)

About the oldest player around is the Tag DV32R! I've had mind for over 2.5 years now and it is still going stong.

Panny, Tosh, Sony, Pioneer etc all swap regualrly with most well behind the Tosh's.
