I got my hands on one, but when my friend saw me running out his house with it, it snatched it back ;)

Received mine on Friday and have noticed a massive increase in colour, depth and detail over my older Samsung 709(which I expected). Audio performance is excellent with much better steering of effects. I'm currently checking out the cd performance against my Marantz CD63mk2 KI Sig and it's standing up very well against it, although not quite as clean in the mid-range and bass extension seems to be lacking slighly.

So far I would say it's money well spent but obviously there's some running in to be done still so it can only get better.

    :)

Avland are doing it for £900 multiregion.avland
Pricerunner quote HiFiBitZ selling for £799 but not multiregion.
Don't think these will be the cheapest prices.

Does this player also support VCD & SVCD and the other methods such as XVCD, minDVD etc ?

I've got a 626 at the moment, which is OK for VCD, but won't do the rest, and I want to start archiving off my miniDV tapes in as best a quality as I possibly can

The 444, 545 and 646 support SVCD according to www.vcdhelp.com

    So hopefully the 747 should!

Mine was from Homecinemaheaven. Got a special pre-order price from a certain other Av related forum which lets say it was under £800 which was an absolute bonus and definately cheaper than anywhere else. Apparently they only got a third of what they had ordered and they all went on pre-orders, next batch at the end of February.

Still very impressed with the performance another day off tomorrow so I'll be watching a couple more films.

The mod works perfectly all automatic including RCE also provided by the above.

According to Justin YES but I've still to test that one, luckily a mate wants a copy of Moulin Rouge. So I'll confirm that tomorrow for you.

Looking at it - it does seem to be making a BIG difference, but they are showing examples of the 2 extremes. Surely the pioneer 646 player which sits in between the 747 and the 545 is better value for money in terms of picture quality and price.

The only shame is that the 646 is only available in black otherwise I would go for it.

What Video and TV gave the Pioneer 646A 3.5 for Picture peformance, saying it was very average for the money!

    It's worried me now.

However the 747 does have the following over the 646

    - 12 bit Video DAC, compared to the 10bit for 646
    - 108MHz, comapred to 54Mhz for the 646

    VEQ7 Pictue Enhancements which include:
    - Block Noise Reduction
    - Mosquito Noise Reduction

Just have to wait I suppose!

I don't want u boys to be too upset about this, but the site near me sold me a 737 for a snip. I'm using a CRT on a 6' screen and the quality is astounding!
Now if you're after the 747 then have a look at this at TECHTRONICS, RCE, MACRO and yes, it plays the lot!

Tech...have it at £728 - remember to add VAT as someone once reminded me. It's still more than double the cost of the 545, which has been well reviewd.

Don't get me wrong if your looking for an impressive audio and visual then this is the probably the machine, but as I am looking for visual only then it simply is overpriced for ME.

I have previously spent much on a powerful sony amp that handles the sound.

    you mean devastated !!

I doubt whether they are going to reduce it much, you will probably find it will be replaced with a better spec machine for double the cost again !!!

You ain't done bad , mate ! If I had that sort of money to spend on a DVD player I would get it too. You don't know of anyone offering interest free ??

Your forgetting that if you buy it from Techtronics you'll have no "garantee" ! They say they do, but the service is so poor, you might as well not have one!

So the picture performance is good then? My mate has one, but he's on holiday now so i only got a quick look of it.

    Spelling mistake - updated ;-)

    I don’t agree!
You might not get a “garentee”, but you certainly DO get a GUARANTEE!
You’ve got your statutory rights too!

Do my eyes deceive me ?!!!!!!!!!

Have I made another blunder ????Looking at Techtronics front web page they have the 747 at £575. If that's excl VAT the price id £675 !!!! Although it does state it as 747/K (?)

If you click on the price it takes you to the detail page that has it for more money ??? More confusion.

I'm going to stick with the new pioneer 545 and wait till DVD-R become cheaper.

The Prices are without VAT. You can get it for £575 but on the lower quality mod, i.e. without VCR mode!

WHY would anyone want to copy to VHS or even a SVHS tape ?

Surely not to loan copies of the film to friends...I'd tell my friends to buy an entry level DVD player.

DVD's are like the mobile phones revolution - I am not sure of the statistics, but I bet soon every household will have one and you will probably want to make a copy of a DVD to pass onto friends even though there might be some degradation it certainly isn't going to be as much as VHS.

I predict VHS tapes will be given away free with packets of cereals in the not too distnat future.

    That's my opinion.

Techtronic pricing can be a bit confusing. Usually on the home page the price is the best that you can get (such as in group purchase) and it does not include VAT. If you go to the actual offer page their prices are well explained.

If you have a projector, the Macrovision lines can distort some models. Some TV's also suffer from the visible blur mark on the top of the frame.

Gents, it may be interesting to hear about the shops, but I would really like to hear from people that have one or at least have seen one in action and see how it performs.

What are is good and bad points as far as they see things

As this player is on my short list of players to buy.
