I know them. They are very serious and professional about their work. I bought my Pio 545 from them and it works just perfect.

Yes, they're not cheap, but they're the ones putting a lot of hours into region modifications only to get their chips disassembled and pirated by everyone else.

If you want PAL progressive (and don't want an HK thingie), this is a very viable solution.

    Regards.

I've sent them an e-mail asking what is a Pioneer 733? I'm hoping it's meant to be 737 as it's mentioned in the same breath as a 747.
That would mean PAL prog for the 737 (if correct) for £120!

    We shall see.

Sorry, it is not meant to be for the 737. Although I will try to port the mod for the 737, the 733 is the corresponding model for the 747 in Asia. A customer told me this so I put it in.

    Regards

The fact that there 'may' be a mod is encouraging news indeed.
    We live in hope.

Techtronics do the 747 PAL progressive also. slightly more expensive (£1089), but then again the price quoted in the first post does not include delivery and tax duties as the player has to come from Switzerland.

Just looked at techtronics pricing and got a little confused, a standard player is £589+Vat and the Multimod with Pal Progressive is £144+Vat (including fitting), a total of £733+Vat, however to buy a modified player costs £841+Vat, over £100 more, have I got confused or is there a mistake on their site?

I queried this with Techtronics and this is the response I recieved.

    "Dear Sir

    Thank you for your email.

I am afraid we do not accept telephone orders here. If you wish to place an
offline order, you may do so with our head office in England - tel 0870 0100
    590. They will provide you a quote and details. Please note that you should
then contact the head office in England to follow up on your order.

The virgin model is indeed 589 GBP exc VAT online.
The upgrade price is 144 GBP exc VAT for the enterprise multimod plus
upgrade.Total would be 733 GBP exc VAT (861.28 GBP inc VAT).
Please note that doing it this way would mean that you lose the
(manufacturer's/Pioneer) warranty on the player itself and the warranty will
    be
a Techtronics warranty on the upgrade only (as the upgrade invalidates the
    warranty on the virgin unit)

If you do need a warranty on the player and the upgrade, then the price for
    the
player already upgraded to enterprise multimod plus level is 841 GBP exc VAT
(988.18 GBP inc VAT). The warranty is then provided by Techtronics on the
player and upgrade (ie the player as a whole). The difference in pricing is
    to
reflect that an amount is built in for warranty issues and is the protocol
    and
structure followed with all our multireigon machines. It is higher on this
particular model than the other models but at present this is to reflect the
complexity of the upgrade and the actual machine involved - as our
    technicians
have more experience with this machine, the price differential may indeed
    drop.

If you do wish to go ahead with the virgin model + upgrade, let me know and I
can send you a specific order form for this option.

    Chris"

    http://www.techtronics.com/uk/shop/50-pioneer-dv-747-multi-region-dvd-player.html
The PAL Progressive(Enterprise Multimod Plus) player is listed on the Techtronics web page now.
I am still curious to know how well this machine performs PAL de-interlacing and how much it suffers from the chroma upsampling error, if at all. I am reluctant to buy one until some reviews of the PAL progressive enabled player come onto the forum.

Unfortunately the player is not too good in deinterlacing for both PAL and NTSC. The Sage chip is much better.

The PAL progressive board has not been released yet. If somebody wants to review it for this forum, please contact me by email.

That's a pity. I had high hopes for this player. Maybe the Denon 3800 will be better and PAL progressive will be easy to implement on it?

As long as you are watching movies, deinterlacing is of no concern. Deinterlacing is only required for material recorded by a video camera. Only very low budget productions or for example live concerts are recorded by video cameras.

Skyworth DVD Player using the SAGE chip:
    + good in deinterlacing
    - noisy picture
    - sharpness ok

    Pioneer 747:
    - not as good as the sage in deinterlacing
    + very clean picture
+ very sharp (picture still looking natural)

I still think the 747 is the best or one of the best progressive DVD players.

Well it seem that there is another outfit offering Pal prog on the 747. This time in Sweden www.dvdirect.net. Has any one used them or know what they are like for service?

Well I certainly disagree with that.

Any film based material that I've seen benefits CLEARLY from proper de-interlacing and progressive output when fed to a proper display device with big enough image size.

De-interlacing will give me (based on my experience) a steadier image and more resolution (the fine details resolve much better).

    How do you figure that?

Even normal finely flagged and properly cadenced DVD film transfers benefit in my experience from de-interlacing.

When one takes into account that most dvds are badly mastered, throw bad flags here and there and break cadence, then I think proper de-interlacing is even more important.

    Add to above:

+ superior de-interlacing (especially on PAL material)
+ sharpness film-like (not oversharp digital image :)
    - not very high quality - can be problematic (sometimes locks up)

    Add to above:

    - REALLY BAD chroma bug
    - quite lousy de-interlacing
+ plays all formats (except HDCD)
+ tons of picture tweaking options (and then tons more :)

I think Phiilps 962SA toasts the Pioneer from here till kingdom come - both in terms of video and audio quality. And it's also PAL prog and region free (not to mention - has better SACD and Faroudja for de-interlacing).

    YMMV :)

    Cheers,
    Halcyon

Where have you seen that it does PAL progressive?
Hivizone specifically seem to say that it does NTSC only in progressive....do you have a link to where you've seen that it can do PAL prog?

    From Hong Kong.

There is a remote hack for the Asian version, but still some minor quibbles to be settled with region free.

Once they are set - this player will sell by the truckload, if it doesn't have the same problems Q50 had (which are now fixed with the latest firmware).

    cheers,
