Pioneer 656A vrs Sony 905 : Who is the Daddy?

    Can't say which is best but the Sony does have a 12bit/108 mhz video chip against the Pioneers 10bit/54mhz.

    I rate my 905 very highly indeed but haven't used a 656.

    The 656A is basically a 757AI without the HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) and should have the same 12bit/108mhz video dac (effetively it's a 747 in a new shell, i think... I may be wrong... :confused: ).

    Furthermore it will also be one of the few dvd players on the market that is CPRM:devil: compliant (copy protection flag broadcasters can use to inhibit playback of recordings made from digital broadcasts).

    I think it has a different dac. Not sure, but I thunk so.

    Ah yes, here it is. The 656 omits prog scan and has a 10/54 dac instead of the 757's 12/108.

    So there you have it.
