Can't say which is best but the Sony does have a 12bit/108 mhz video chip against the Pioneers 10bit/54mhz.
I rate my 905 very highly indeed but haven't used a 656.
The 656A is basically a 757AI without the HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) and should have the same 12bit/108mhz video dac (effetively it's a 747 in a new shell, i think... I may be wrong... ).
Furthermore it will also be one of the few dvd players on the market that is CPRM compliant (copy protection flag broadcasters can use to inhibit playback of recordings made from digital broadcasts).
I think it has a different dac. Not sure, but I thunk so.
Ah yes, here it is. The 656 omits prog scan and has a 10/54 dac instead of the 757's 12/108.
So there you have it.
does the new 905 have prog. scan?
