hi,any review of the above available .supposed to be out in august, regards jimmy.
where did u hear about it? any specification details yet?
It will be similar to the DV-646 but will play DVD-Audio AND SACD. The price will be 'an offer you can't refuse'.
sounding good... now if only they do it in silver as well as black for this iteration and i might actually get one when they come down to a sensible price
DVD-A bass management
Two SCARTs (one of them RGB-switchable), two S-video , two composite and component interlaced outs
Improved MP3 playback: will support multisession discs and long names.
Available in silver and black
Price in Germany: around 569 (around 380 quid).

does that mean the other SCART is not RGB? will be annoying if they get rid of the RGB pass-through ability... :-(
> Available in silver and black
No, I'm pretty sure it'll keep the current system - RGB pass-through, but no RGB output.
So, will the next iteration be the 666 ?
It's not much of a looker is it.
If it's as good a machine as it appears on paper it looks as if it will be the must have mid range player. For £349 it's a steal.
The 656A is reviewed in the latest What HiFi magazine - came out well - not that far behind the 747A but without progressive scan of course.
hmm... had a read of the What Hi-Fi review at lunch. they seem to like it apart from it not having great CD-audio however, it will no doubt be better than my Alba DVD103 in any case!
however they only listed it as having 1 RGB scart socket whereas avland.co.uk tentatively say it will have 2 RGB scarts with RGB pass-thru like the 646. seems unlikely they would downgrade the 656 so hopefully it will have the same RGB options...
on that subject, Grubert, what did u mean by this comment??? >>> "No, I'm pretty sure it'll keep the current system - RGB pass-through, but no RGB output." how can it have RGB pass-thru but no RGB output? even my crappy Alba has RGB output...
ah, think i figured it out... correct me if i am wrong!
the 656a has two scart sockets. one gives RGB output from the player itself. the other does not give RGB output but presumably is wired sufficiently to allow pass-through of an RGB signal from an external source...
in which case i can plug my funky Argos RGB switching box into my 656a (when i get one!) and then use a nice quality scart (a QED Squart perhaps...) to connect the player RGB output to the RGB input on my TV, thus getting 4 RGB capable inputs to my TV without compromising on the quality of the connection between my DVD player and TV. hurrah!
LeConcept has it listed as supporting CD-Audio and DTS, I have read on other forums that is does not supported these features, can anybody confirm wat it does and does not feature.
Exactly. Sorry for the confusing wording.
mancubas, all DVD players I know are CD-audio compatible. And the 656 does have a DTS decoder and also DTS digital out (duh!).
AVLand say they're expecting them in on the 23rd -- was originally supposed to be the end of last month, but apparently some delay at the factory has held things up.
I got the impression they'd had quite a lot of pre-orders, so don't expect to get one in a hurry if you haven't ordered it already...
