The 757 is a better CD player according to some reliable sources of mine. Also PAL prog, not sure on the details of that. It also has the iLink of course, not much use yet.

I guess it's just a bit better all-round although as a DVD player, apart from prog, I doubt there is much in it. I am seriously looking at a 757 next year as a transport for an Arcam AV8 until the DVD-A/SACD thing gets resolved.

I demod both players in Sevenoaks rather nice room and to be honest audio wise I couldn't tell the difference on movies or cds. The guy in the shop certainly implied that the two machines were all but identical under the skin, the only significant differences being Prog Scan & i-link.

I had started out leaning toward the 757 (I could afford it & they had several in stock). By the time I'd finished I left the shop empty handed as the salesman convinced me that the 656 was the better buy (my two year old Sony can't handle PS), but sorry they didn't have one in stock! (I managed to get one the day after from Richers for £30 less)

    The 757 also has a superior video D/A converter (108/12) to 656 (27/10).

    Hi gori,

I contacted Pioneer tech support recently about enabling PAL prog scan on the 757. They replied that they had no such plans :( Bah, humbug!
