Pioneer 656, is it really that good?

I have seen in arecent magazine this player has won dvd player of the year, is it's picture quality that good.

also I am upgrading from an old Hitachi 505 would the improvement be worth it.

Absolutely. A BIG improvement in sound and picture, particularly if you have a nice big widescreen and use RGB scart.

I have the Philips 28 9616.

I am stuck between 2 players this and the new sony 905

I personally dont think the picture on the 656 is quite as detailed as the 737.

Then again, from the tests I've done so far, it does seem as if Pioneer have made substantial improvements to their decks handling of layer changes. No longer the "year long" pause of the 737 and earlier models.

Would love to see the 757i in action.

Am using component output on a Tosh 56 inch widescreen set.

Have been considering upgrading my aging tosh 2109 to the 656. or a tosh 510.

Even more so now that latest RS ad in what hifi (awards issue) are advertising the 656 at £299

sure to sell out quick (if they have any in stock that is...)
