Pioneer 636D problem

Hi all,

My Pioneer 636 has started to suffer the following problem - no sound output! It loads every DVD I put in it fine, and I get video, but no sound at all.

I have tried the coaxial and optical digital outputs, and all the other audio outputs on the back... nothing. Even no audio through the scart. Any ideas?

If it helps recently it started to put a load of extended info on the screen when the disk is inserted - kind of like a service menu with no options (track number, etc... plus I load of other acronyms only Pioneer must understand) - I don't know why this started, I certainly didn't try to put it there! However this 'list' goes away as soon as a button is pressed on the remote.

It has been region modded, so I can't send it back to Pioneer, and is out of warranty with the dealer.

Does it sound totally dead? If so, I'll replace it with a Pioneer 656 - unless anyone has other opinions on this?

Many thanks for your help :)
