If you didn’t know from previous post I bought a Toshiba 330 the other week for my parents and became unsatisfied with my 3year old plus player.
And decided to go for a Pioneer 565 (was even on the phone yesterday to see if they was in stoke at one store) but I have been told Pioneer had trouble playing Jeepers Creepers. Does anyone know if they have fixed this problem?

I too am thinking of getting one of these this week as all I have heard about it are good things, I cannot decide wether to order a 565 or a Panasonic s75 for about £80 less.

Yep, I'm about to buy one of these as I've heard a lot of good reviews about it. Fair enough, it only does NTSC progressive scan, but so does the TV I've ordered.

This chroma bug thing had me concerned, but it seems pretty irrelevent unless you're sitting inches from the screen.

I'd be interested to hear any negative feedback - contributions on this forum warned me off the 32PD30 and I feel I've now made the right choice with the 36ZD26P for the same price.

I had problems playing Solaris R1. It didn't want to play the second layer...picture kept breaking up. Couldn't see anything wrong with the disc and it played fine in my Tosh2109.

My conculsion was cr@p film... dvd player is protecting me.

No other problems. and I've played loads of films, cd's, SACD's and DVD-A's.

There are loads of features I really like. I watched a Brue Lee film the other day. Stopped it half way through. Over the next few days I watched and listened to a number of discs. I eventually got round to watching the Bruce lee film. Stuck the disc in and it started from where I had finished!! Cool.

Only annouying thing I've found is that I've got it hooked up to my tv and reciever. I use the receiver when watching on my projector. If I set the speakers to 5.1 it outputs the left and right of the 5.1 through the sterio jacks...so I don't get any dialoge. I have to manually go in and change it to sterio. Still, the player etc will be moving soon and leaving the tv with my Tosh2109 player.

Oh yea, I had a very quick look at the NTSC prog scan. Looked ok to me. I have an Iscan Ultra so not really using that function of the player. Unless someone points the croma bug out to you you won't see it. I tried looking for it on my 7.5ft screen and couldn't spot it. I'm sure you won't see it on your titchy telly ;) :D

hi. I'm new here and this is my first post. I'm getting the pioneer 565 next week and I just want to ask. Has anybody had any problems using it with a Grundig TV??

I'm assuming you haven't heard what SACD can do yet then Garret???

I was simply stunned by how much of an improvement it can be over standard CDs. But - as with CDs - Production & mixing plays a big part in how successful each disc sounds.

You'll find enthusiasts saying "The Timing's off" and "It doesn't have the Rhythmic drive of a CD based system", but in all honesty I didn't particularly care about these tiny flaws, the 'realism' factor was so overwhelming that just about all flaws can be overlooked :)

I'm unsure of DVD-A so far, simply because I haven't heard any particularly 'good' examples of it, but from what I heard SACD sounded far better.

Oh and the 565A is a pretty good DVD Video player too :)

Out of interest, what is the difference between a 565 and a 656, other than a oner? Is the quality on the 656 really any better? Can the 656 do things that the 565 can't?

Hehe, yeah. It's something I've been wondering for a while. I'd already decided on a 565, but thought I'd check.

I've already started plundering eBay for bargain R1 dvd. :D

I saw that but I was recommended an other firm by a reliable member it was a bit more but I was not bothered about that I wanted a dependable service I also gave them a ring and they were in stock. (Not saying your isn’t).

And QED is cheaper than your.

I've just had a look @ the R1 Nightmare before christmas disc and have seen something on the opening sequence (with the trees) - this is via RGB - it's sort of like a horizontal shimmering., can anyone else confirm if this is the problem thats being reported.

    Will try via S-Video tomorrow

OK - the horizontal banding disappears on s-video (but it's only visible on some scenes via RGB) - I tried RGB via both AV2 and AV3 and tried both scart sockets on the player (only 1 outputs RGB)

I'm outputting s-vidoe via the scart and into AV1 - it looks pretty good but the colours seem less bright compared to RGB.

Might try the QED component->Scart cable if anyone can confirm it doens't suffer from the rgb problem

Just got the 565 mainly for the universal disc element of the player. Sounds great with SACD but again its down to the discs and the formatting. MJ Thriller and JT Hourglass sound fantastic compared to their CD counterparts - more space and clarity no matter how busy it all gets.

Not tried as a DVD yet so will post more when I know.

Anyone had an experience of DVD Audio with this player as I want to use it in the Hi Fi mainly but will buy another player for the TV if its that good... would appreciate any feedback on the sound aspect and set up of DVD Audio.

I have a Loewe TV and I thought when I first plugged the DVD in, on switching it on it switched from what TV channel I was on over to DVD but it does not do it now. Have I altered something in the setting as I have been plying round with them. Or am I mistaken?

I spotted some pixilation on Goldeneye chapter 9, 1.46minutes in, when the scene chances from an explosion to the helicopter. I have tried it in my old Grundig 210 and a Toshiba and nether if them show that fault. Although I have disc’s that the 210 showed a lot more faults on and they are prefect on the 565.

No I haven’t seen that problem one yet.

I was wondering if the above fault was a layer change but could not see it as it was so soon in the film and I have found out the layer change is for the extras.

Just wondered if you're still happy with your 565 ?
At the moment I'm tossing up between a Panny S75 and the Pioneer 565 - I got thrown out of Dixons the last time I did that ;) :D
I need to make a decision on which one to buy and am now on the side of the 565.

The more I look into this the more it looks like I will be going for the 565. Might as well get SACD and DVD-A in case I need it.

That's a sound enough principle John, and I own a 656 for the same reason (for now I might add- just doodled out a new AV system- more later). If only the proliferation in compatability was equalled by an increase in releases- only bought Yoshimi battles the Pink Robots in the last three months :(

What's the layer change like? My old Panasonic has a fairly speedy one compared to older Pioneers but my amp still sometimes switches to DPL on bad changes (ie Phantom Menace and Lion King)
