Pioneer 540 Connection

I've just got a new Pioneer 540. Its connected like this:

NTL Pace box >> Pio 540 on AV2
Pio 540 on AV1 >> TV on AV2

Why is is that when the recorder is switched off and I turn the TV on it doesn't automatically switch to AV2? As soon as I turn the recorder on it does. I've enabled the pass through option in the menu but it still doesn't work.

It should do......
Check the scart connection from the NTL box to the DVD recorder. If the voltage on the pin sending the signal is not high enough it will not work.
