My Pioneer HD/DVD recorder has come up with the "Initialize HDD" message and the manual tells me to do this via the Home Menu. However, the machine won't allow me to do anything at all - all attempts to go to the Home Menu or anywhere else is prevented by saying the operation cannot be completed.

I've tried powering off but it simply powers back up with the same warning.

Does anyone know how I can get the HDD to Initialize again?

If your hdd is full or recording (ie no space left for further recordings) it wont let you do it. Make sure you have about 15% of the hdd space free and try. If not this then there is a setting to reset to factory defauilt in the manual - try that.

Well, I left it off overnight and this morning when I switched it on it allowed me into the menu. After a quick reinitialisation it now works again - thank god!
