After connecting a Panasonic S-97 dvd player via HDMI to the Pioneer 434 there seems to be no way to change the aspect ratio of the picture except from "FULL".

Is this a problem with the HDMI connection on the TV or on the player?

Does anybody have the same setup and can they change the aspect ratio.

    Any help grately received.

    Thanks in advance,

I only get Standard Full on Input 3/HDMI with a Dell PC connected via a DVI->HDMI cable.

I can understand why they've made it this way as they probably thought that no one would want to change the setting as if you're watching a dvd this setting should always be correct. Even with 4:3 films, the purists would watch it with the grey bars either side.

Have to say that I'm not a purist and I have a few old b/w films in 4:3 format and I like to stretch them to fill the screen. I find this a little disappointing now as I was thinking of upgrading my dvd player to a HDMI model but this may make me think again.
