Pioneer 350/454 compatibility with DVD-R/VCD/SVCD/etc...?

    I'm looking at getting a new Pioneer but before I do, I would appreciate some feedback on how well they cope with discs that they *claim* to be able to play, in the specs.
    I have a Toshiba 210 that claimed to be able to play SVCD's but in reality, it had major problems, such as audio sync. It also claimed to be a competent CD player but there was a really annoying 'tick...tick...' noise coming from the drive on some CD's.

    Any comments on the above drives?

    hi,i had a dansai from tesco,99 quid,played everything,i,d just burn the mpeg files and this machine played them no probs,but the dansai stopped workking,so i bought pioneer 444,it wont play vcds ,its seems very fussy with the discs it plays,wont even play multi session discs,good with dvds though,rgrds pat
