Help, I'm a DVD-R div. Does my head in just thinking about it but we have loads of stuff on the Sky + HDD that my lady wants to commit to some kind of media and VHS is naff.

So, is the 3100 a suitable machine? Will it record films from Sky Movies in full 5.1 (if so broadcast)? If not, which recorder will?

What does it all mean? Can I use DVD-RW with this machine and then do sophisticated removal of adverts on my PC at a later date?

    ARGGGHHHHH

Thanks. So, no way of recording DD or DTS onto disks? That sucks but I guess I'll have to take the plunge anyway.

    Cheers.

I am afraid not mate - at the moment anyway - I do believe that there are recorders in the pipeline for next year that will record the DD signal - maybe someone who knows can let you know the details.
    Regards

Hmmm. I may hold off for a bit then or try to get hold of a super cheap recorder. Is -RW a good solution? In terms of PC editing, I guess you need a DVD burner in your PC and some suitable software. Do you have any idea which software so I can have a look at the options?

    Cheers.

Cool, thanks for the advice. Appreciated. I may just get one (seen them for £366) and then flog it next year once the 5.1 models come out.

Actually, looking at that, I may go for the E50 as it's only £250 and I could edit and back up all the stuff to DVD-R on the PC. Have to study the sticky thread a bit more first to see what's involved.

I would look to replace the player if I could get 5.1 later on so I just need a cheap, stop-gap to get all the stuff off my Sky+ hard drive.

Yep, think that's what I'll do.

Thanks for the links and advice again.
