Thinking of doing some moving around of my kit - what air-gap do people have above their amp please ?

    Thanks,

About 5 feet top, 6 inches rear, 7 feet left, 6 inches right :)

Previously though I had about 3 inches above, open back and front. The 2011 gets pretty warm but not as bad as my old Marantz 7300 which used to get HOT in the same space.

Thanks Daneel - currently my Pioneer has nothing above it - but was considering re-putting in shelf and putting DVD player above it (which would be about 2 1/2 inch air-gap)

You didn't find it got over-hot with 3 inch gap then ?

My NAD C350 used to be like a thermal nuclear power station !

Over hot? No. It would heat up the shelf above it a fair bit but I could stick my hand in there without a problem, with the 7300 though it used to be very uncomfortable to put my hand in that space. Sorry I can't give you any temps.

Thanks again - its OK no temps required - I perhaps should just try it and see what happens.

Once put my NAD cd player on top of my NAD C-350 amp - ooops - the bottom of the CD player was too hot to touch ! That can't be good !

I would definitely NOT place anything so close to the top panel of a 2011 or AX5. These amps run quite hot, even when idling and the themal updraught will not do a DVD player with moving parts (laser assembly, drive motor etc) any good at all. This does dependto a degree on the type and thickness of the shelf of course, but I would leave as much space as possible to let the amp breath, especially when its being driven
