Pio 435xde Best Price

Hi Everyone,

I'm now 99.99999% sure that the plasma for me is the Pioneer pdp435xde.
The reasons behind this are the pio being futureproof, I don't have sky at the moment so freeview is adequite for now. It's amazing looks and the lack of cables i need to run down my walls when mounted.
Has anyone any idea where the best priced units can be sourced. I would pay a little extra if the after sales treatment was second to none and the extra guarantee prices were reasonable.
I've tried getting in touch with Joe F. but no reply as yet. AV Sales gave me a good quote but a couple of more woudn't go amiss.

Cheers

Blingtastic :) :)

Blingtastic, if you dont have SKY and are using Freeview the Pio is pricer than you need to spend

If you look at the latest What HiFi it does state that the Viera picture is just as good (except HDMI sources)

If you want the option of HDTV in the future then fair enough - Otherwise why spend 1K more thsn you need to?

just my $0.02

Fair comment but the Viera mounted on the wall (if possible) would look terrible in my opinion.

It is possible. I got the universal wall mount from AVSales, plus the extension bars, which means it sits about 60mm from the wall. It costs about £140.

Here's a link to a picture of my Viera wall mounted, (ignore the new project below the screen  ) It's about 1.3m to the bottom of the screen, slightly higher than eye height, so i've added a little tilt, which also helped remove the rear reflections. I think it lOOks the muts-nuts!! http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177955

I know it doesn't have Digital connections (HDMi/DVi), but then neither does my DVD player, damn, i'm still on scart. The HDTV issue will take years to materialise, so that didn't bother me either. Just read any review, the screen speaks for itself. So if wall mounting was an issue, lOOk at the pic to see what you think.....It might even save you £1000-ish.

Gazthehat,
I must admit the Viera does look good on the wall but i still think the Pio looks that little bit better comparing both.

Thanks for that pic though.

Danny,
What was the guarantee with Digital Electronics?? The price looks good.

Firstly, I am NOT a Sony-sycophant, honest!

The Pioneer's going rate is just under £2700 it seems.

I have seen it many a time, and live with a Pioneer 504, with Sky and Freeview hooked up.

IMO, the Pioneer's gloss frame is indeed beautiful, and the picture clarity is excellent - certainly better than the Panasonic which is slightly fuzzy in comparison - and the 'superior contrast' of the Panny is nothing more than a myth in practice, and doesn't make up for its inferior detail or colour. Add in the HDMI, the Pioneer is a safe winner.

However, the one major drawback of the Pioneer is its terrible motion blur. It is extremely visible, most annoying and hardly (if ever) mentioned. Pans, motion sequences, anything and everything trips it up, whereas other screens can display a relatively clean version of events.

What I'm about to say may well get me a bashing on here, but I think it is perfectly true, and may be of some help:

1. The Sony KDE-P42SX1, which can be had at the same price as the Pioneer, offers a far superior image to either the Pioneer or Panasonic in absolutely every way, except maybe contrast (but all 3 are almost as poor as each other in this area). With DVDs, the differences between plasmas are less noticable, but a Scart DVD player on the Sony is better than a HDMI on the Pioneer, as I've seen both in action.

I strongly recommend you pop in to a shop and see this Sony with a proper feed. If you don't like it, then nothing's lost, but if you do - then you can thank me later! Oh, and the Sony looks gorgeous too. No HDMI or HDCP, but by the time they are of any true consequence, who cares. Having seen true high-definition playing on the Pioneers, the difference is hardly gobsmacking - I was more dazzled with the Sony playing plain old Freeview! The only drawback to the Sony is there is no separate media box.

2. If you want to save money, the old Philips 42PF9946 at £1500 is a better screen than the Viera, but no digital tuner and no swish look. Even more surprisingly, The Toshiba 42" plasma at a similar price is near-identical to the Viera, except with slightly better contrast (!), I've seen the two sitting next to each other sharing the same Sky box and changed through different channels to get an idea. Its looks are nice too.

Sorry for going on a long time. I think the answer to your question is £2700!

Superpixel,
I was just about to get the credit card out tomorrow. You have now thrown a spanner in the works.mmmm DO I OR DON'T I.
To be honest i've never seen the sony in action so it might be worth a viewing very soon.

Thanks for the info

Does anyone know any other companies selling the 435 XDE's around about the £2600 mark. Ones which have stock to go as I have been waiting for my order for weeks.
