I had more or less decided to buy the 434hde ( with floor stand ) , AX5i receiver and 868 dvd player.

I then read the preview of the upcoming 435xde in HCC , now i'm wondering if i should hang on for it ?

    I can get the 434hde for approx. £3200 ( + stand etc ).
From what i've read , the 435xde will be about £4000 but it doesn't seem like it will be a big improvement on the 434hde spec wise. ( if that's possible ).

Then , just to make matters worse - there's the new AX5ai receiver coming out , and then  the Denon 3910 dvd with HDMI and DVI outputs - very tempting as i will be buying a projector aswell.
With the 868 player i would have needed an HDMI switcher to output to either plasma or projector.

Any opinions very much appreciated .

    Stan.

If you think like that you will never buy any kit as there is always something new just around the corner...
We've had our kit for about 10 months now and although the prices are starting to drop and new gear is on its way, I don't regret buying any of it.
You only live once so get it now and enjoy it while you can.

Agree 100% with what you're saying , it's just the fact that the new models are so close to release - i don't mind waiting a couple of months .

I see you have the 868 , do you notice the layer change . I think the Denon players are supposed to be better in this respect .

Yes, layer change is very noticeable.
By the time I've opened my mouth to complain about it though, the film has resumed.

Even if there was zero layer change on a Denon, it wouldn't make me buy one.
They're ugly boxes that do nothing for me.

There's a saying "You shouldn't judge a book by the cover".

Surely performance matters more than looks.

    In most cases, yes.
But AV is about form and function.
