    Hi all

Wondering if any enlightened peeps out there can advise....

I am a relative newbie to home DVD's...this question is regarding audio (or lack of ) via HDMI using Pinnacle Studio Plus 10.7.

Just made a home movie (friends wedding)....burnt disc to DVD....attempted to play DVD through :

    Samsung LE32R86WD
    Samsung HD870 DVD Player
    Connected via HDMI

....HOWEVER.....DVD plays only video, not audio through HDMI (seem to remember a message on screen to the effect "HDMI audio not supported".)...hooked up a scart cable via the RGB TV input and hey presto....audio + video.

Question.....is there a setting I am missing in the TV, DVD player, or am I not selecting the correct audio setting in Pinnacle when making/burning my movie ??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated....:)

What you state would seem to be a Samsung DVD player issue, not Pinnacle.
Do a search on the DVD players forum .One of such threads

I have an oldeR Samsung HD 950 which is occasionally similarly badly behaved
I usually just press the HDMI sel button on the Remote and it dissapears
Otherwise change the Audio type in menu to bitstream from PCM and see what happens

Senu....result !!....changed audio setting in the DVD player from PCM to Bitstream and...video + audio !!

This prompts another question....by changing audio settings in this way, will I have to change back to play normal DVD's (DD, 5.1 )...sorry if it's a dumb question, we all have to learn somewhere !!

Probably not. But DVD Audio encoding is not homogeneous and for some discs you may have to go to the menu to get the full 5.1 or 6.1. The Menu is easy to access anyway
It will not matter for Stereo or 2 channel Dolby digital playback, Dolby ProLogic II or IIx
Trial and error is the key

No worries , you are building up a body of experience to make that happen less often in future
However, in order that you don't find yourself trying to " reinvent the wheel" it might be prudent to post a query early on before the coaster count rises:rotfl:
