Looking at the bbfc website they say widecreen (I believe PPs were 2.35:1) and commentary and loads of extras inc. the cartoons.

I can't tell if it is a new uncut version though, it was cut in '63 - possibly nunchucks

The nunchucks sequence appeared in one of the later films, Revenge in '78 I think. This has regularly appeared on TV without any cuts. The '63 film was the first, "The Pink Panther". The only reason for cutting this would have been sexual inuendo, or maybe too much flesh. I am sure the films will all be complete.

I woudnt imagine they would be cut, just hoping that the sound will be a decent 5.1 remaster, should make the films even better :).

Lookin fordward to the film were he drives the robin reliant telphone van into the swimming pool, cant remember the particular title though.

Thats Return of the PP, with Christopher Plummer. A very funny film.
I have the region 1 films and sound and picture quality is moderate to awful. If the box set is any good, I might get it myself.

Are the Pink panther films available separately? there are one or two I would like to buy but I don't want all of them (especially the one where they used scenes from all the other films, they made it after Sellers died)

Quite right the R1 dvds were not very good and only 2 of them were enhanced for widescreen tv. Unfortunately I have them all and frankly why they even bothered to release such dreadful dvds beats me.

I have just found the box set available NOW at amazon.de for 59 Euros (£40), with a review at dvd-basen. I'm tempted - why shouldn't I?

I'm afraid it does include Trail of the Pink Panther, made in 1982 after Sellers had died. Luckily they have omitted Curse of the Pink Panther (1983); another rubbish hatchet job which doesn't even feature Sellers. Shame on Blake Edwards for both of those. I won't even mention Son of...

BUT! There's no Return of the Pink Panther in the boxset! That's arguably the best film (along with A Shot in the Dark)!

I'm a big Sellers fan but I can't buy this box with one classic substituted for an abomination.

Play247's website does not list "Return" as being included in the boxset, but it does list Christopher Plummer and Lesley Anne Downe as starring. This may indicate that "Return" is included and it is just an error by Play.

This the specification Amazon has :

    DVD Description
A six-disc box set, including five films and one disc of extra features:

    The Pink Panther

    A Shot in the Dark

    The Pink Panther Strikes Again

    Revenge of the Pink Panther

    Trail of the Pink Panther

    Special Features

    New Inside Pink Panther documentary

    1978 special That’s Panthertainment

    Behind the Feline: Cartoon Phenomenon

6 Pink Panther cartoons, including the Academy Award winning The Pink Phink

    The Unknown Peter Sellers documentary

The Commercial Peter Sellers - "making of" documentary

    Highly collectible 8-page booklet

Shots in the Dark photo gallery

    Audio Commentary

So return of the pink panther is missing, the utter bastards, it ruins what could be a brilliant boxset. Im off to get a box of clenex:)

I will now have to get Return on R1 or something ? Is their a new R1 boxset in the pipeline?

Having a w*nk wont make things any better. :D

I am sure a region 1 boxset will come along eventually, but I havent seen anything to confirm that. In the meantime, I think you can still get Return from Future Ent for about 8.99.

Edit: I just checked and DVDSoon have it for about 8.66

    Today I'm a happy man!

On Monday night I emailed amazon.de to check the discs were all in English and they confirmed 1st thing Tuesday. I ordered straight away and they turned up this morning. (dvdsoon please take note).

The German discs are the same as the uk ones (They all have the new bbfc PG certificate) They are all 5.1 English. They are all 2.35:1 anamorphic, and they all look GREAT.

So why the 3 month UK delay? The only possible conclusion I can draw is the new cover art. Due to the name of the artist/company the box set contains the word 'SHAG' in at least 4 places! - Too much for a PG? I don't know.

I picked up the boxset by surprise in a local dvd rental place where they sell second hand stuff, ex-rentals etc. Saw this for 29 euros in pefect nick and snapped it up rapido :)

Read this thread afterwards and was a bit narked to notice that Return Of is not in the set, I took a look on IMDB and it seems to say that it was the only film that MGM didnt have full ownership over so I guess that explains why its not in the set.

I wonder if they will re-release it tho, as for what I can see the spec of the R1 disc is pretty abismal.

    Rob
