Ive been having trouble with getting slow download speeds for a while, and now im spending a lot of time on cod mw2 online via the ps3 which is connected wirelessly, I seem to get kicked from games and a lot of games end early to to host migration and stuff, Ive heard its best to have a good ping time when playing games online! I use virgin media as my isp 10 meg and ive got a belkin wireless N router,, my pc is wired but my laptop and my ps3 connect wirelessly, ans ive been getting download speeds of around 1-2 meg and pings of 72, I had a man from sky round trying to sell it to me and when I enquired about a bundle it was £51 a month for the hd pack 8meg broadband and the phone and linerental, to be fair I was already getting 10 meg broadband, the xl tv package and talk unlimited phone from virgin and my bills have been around the £60 mark but thats with a £5 payment handling fee and 1.50 paper bill, there wasnt a great deal to entice me to sky but I thought I would phone virgin and see what they said! I know pay my bills by DD and have e billing and now get 20meg bradband for £50 :) I also got them to send me a new wireless N router for free and ive fitted that and im now getting ping speeds of and download speeds of this is wired im going to test my ps3 in a min but are those ping tests any good?

After altering the settings on the ps3 I did a download and uplaod test and it came out as 3.7 mbps and upload of 395.2 kbps is this any good?

Just managed to get an ethernet cable to the back of my ps3 to check the wired settings and im getting 12.5 mbps download and 716.2 kbps upload, this is clearly the way I need to go im just going to have to buy a longer ethernet cable and curl it up and hide it away after ive finnished on the ps3!

ethernet is definitely the way to go
Regards the wireless I believe the PS3 is only 802.11 b/g anyway so wireless N wouldn't make a difference.
Pings are ok, notice the difference on speedtest and pingtest, best way to tell pings is from command prompt to gameserver

Ive seen that but i dont know how to do it? Im getting speedtest.net pings of 65-70 and pingtest.net pings of around 25 with jitter of 13!

These tests are being done on my pc which is wired! ive just dont a tracert to bbc and this is what I got Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]

this means nothing to me, so any advice is most welcome

Tested it at 6:45 this morning and I was getting pings of 16 and jitter of 1, must just be during peak hours, ie the time I spend most time on the internet!
