Why do you specifically want PictureGear 4.1?
Just about any video editing software should do the job fine. All you need to do is connect the camcorder to your PC via firewire and let the software do all the work. If you have Windows XP on the PC then you also have the very good & free Movie Maker. Full help and advise on useing it can be found Here.

If you are connecting the cam to PC via firewire then I strongly suggest you swqap to firewire. USB wilol never give you a 100% quality transfer, and firewire is the only way to get 100% quality. If you don't have a firewire port (aka iLink, DV port, ieee1394) on your PC then you can add it on a PCI card for around £20 including a cable for connecting the cam to it.
