Just been to currys looking at high def televisions. They had 4 different size LG Plasmas showing HD and they looked stunning. The 42" one had a 10000:1 contrast ratio and Resolution: 1024 x 768.
I was looking at buying the Samsung PS-42S5HX which has the same contrast and resolution stats does this mean that the samsung will have as good a picture????? Help

Ask Currys for a demo and see for yourself. Never trust other people's opinions when you're spending that sort of cash :)

no it doesn't matie......there is so much more to it than that I'm afraid.....in fact everything has more to do with it than that.....the electronics, the components, etc, etc, etc. Search the forums for the screens you are interested in for research...and try and see them all, well set up at specialist dealers if you can and you will see the differences.

I think you should look at the Samsung you're talking about. In Curry's £1999 but you can get it online for aound £1500 and if you put a bit of work in get a JL pricematch too.For the money I think it's a good option I don't see the point in paying a lot more than that when you think how quick things develp etc.

Samsung are always cheaper than Panasonic and give a comparable PQ...do you think they are being kinder to us :)

I would avoid the Samsung PS-42S5HX, I went to a mates to have a go at setting his up for him, he has been using a PW5 for about 3 odd years, and he couldn't get it looking anywhere near as good.
We had a go at it, but it just isn't very good. The colours are false looking and as soon as there are any shadows it looks like you have turned it to 256 colours! He is renting and he is trying to get it swapped over.
    Avoid!

Programmed a pronto for a Samsung owner last night, not impressed either. But he got given his, so not too much to complain about. I was offered a batch for a reasonable price but turned it down. From my experience, and that of numerous others, PQ is not the biggest issue. Lots of people would be quite happy with the screen, you're not all as picky as Gizlaroc. It's the plentiful supply of sinks and soap at Samsung UK that's the problem. They wash their hands more often than NHS nurses.

Honestly mate, a friend asked me to look at the screen, he had 2 replaced already because he thought they were faulty. I said he was being too fussy, it is only in the spare room so why be so picky, but the image was awful.

The funny thing is the DNIE function, if you view the demo it splits the screen in half showing the image with and without it running, the half without it running looks really good, the blacks are only grey but the image looks far better. But we could not find any way of turning it off for real, it is almost like Samsung are saying, this is the image you could have, but we won't let you!
