Got a samsung LE26R7BDX HD Tv for crimbo, connected to Toshiba SD-220E DVD player (4 YRS old) via THOR SCART lead.
The Picture Quality is BAD, Very Pixelated!! Not what I was expecting.
Is it just that the DVD player is so old?
Should I upgrade to a HDMI DVD player?
Any advice would b much appreciated
    Thanks,

The picture should be reasonable, admittedly it’s not the ultimate in AV, but that set up should not be as you describe. Few things to try:

Set the toshiba to output RGB over the scart, this should bring some depth to the picture, you will find this in the picture menu.

Also make sure toshiba set up to output in 16:9.

Turn all the picture processing off on the screen, samsung do tend to go mad in this area, again in the picture menus, anything you not sure about just turn off. I set one up a while ago and it seemed to be a nightmare finding all the gimmicks (can not remember which model mind).

Turn the TV sharpness off (set to 0), its not needed now with DVD etc. (was needed to compensate for crap decoders in VHS etc).

Finally try and get the contrast, brightness, colour set up, this will enable the screen to work at its best. This can have fairly significant effects especially with ghosting and image smearing. A cheap way is to use a THX branded disk such as Cars and all the starwars disks. Its called the THX optimiser and is a reasonable starting point.

Hope above makes sense, post again to let us know how you get on; feel free to PM if you need anything else.

    Dupe...
