I've recently got a hold of Photoshop CS2, I've never used it before, can anyone recommend a book or any resource that would guide me through th basics?

    Cheers

Scott Kelbys writing style is easy to digest and you manage to actually learn a thing or 2.:)
Some may not warm to his sense of humour but I find the light heartedness make what can be a complex program easy to use
Conversely, his books for Elements reveal a lot of gems in that program that even a long term user may not know existed

I started many moons ago using the photoshop bibles but its been a while since I looked at any of the current books available.

One thing I do is I look at the computer arts stuff they sometimes do one offs on photoshop that can do no harm looking at.

Similarly, Digital Photo ( magazine) does Video lessons on PS and Elements ( and PSP) on selected techniques on thier cover mount CDs. They also have this . Worth a look? Only you can tell
The Lessons are fun to watch ,easy to follow and although they dont follow the systematic pattern of a book, prove easy to recall as the starting and finished images tend to be on the CD.

The Photoshop "Bibles" really scare me  The sheer volume of them just make me throw up my hands in horror!
