Hi all, hope this will get enough exposure as I can't seem to find a thread on this topic on AVForums anywhere yet. Moderators, feel free to move it to where you think it will be seen the most/more appropriate area. I just thought I would post here as I have a big thread here that is affected, but I am sure other especially in the members showcase forum will be affected etc.
It looks like I have been bitten by the change in terms and conditions that Photobucket have implemented. They are basically asking for a LOT of money to 'upgrade' my account so that I am able to link to my images in various forums. I know I had a free account, but I have not been given any warning over these changes, and it seems that all my posts over the YEARS on various forums have now been ruined by this change. All my photos that I linked to various forums were hosted on Photobucket.
It seems that Photobucket have decided that 3rd party hosting comes at a cost, and it seems to be quite excessive! I would probably have been OK to pay a smaller amount considering I use the feature quite a lot, maybe something like £5 a month as it also will come with some storage but the charge they are asking for is immense to be honest. I think it's in the region of $400 a year to be able to link your photos. That is the cheapest tier they offer that allows 3rd party hosting.
Has anyone else been affected by this change?
It seems all my photos on here are now not showing, which basically makes my build thread next to useless to be honest!
If I choose another image hosting service, who is to say they won't do the same as Photobucket, even if they have a cheaper option? What is stopping any company from folding if their business model fails? I am going to assume Photobucket are going to lose out on this decision as I will certainly be leaving their service, as are many others. A small charge and I would have stayed if they informed us all in due time etc, even as a common courtesy, but this immediate change in policy, and now also breaking old posts from years ago I am going to leave them.
If I choose another hosting service that allows 3rd party linking then I would need to replace each and every photo link one by one.....AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!
So, is anyone else affected by this change?
Does anyone know of any other options, like hosting your own server, or even if a personal website solution could do the same thing, and still allow photos to show on here?
Can you directly upload to the forum? I seem to remember that the size is limited or it's very slow or something like that which is why I used Photobucket in the first place.
Sorry rant over. Now to have a look at what I can do to salvage my forum posts.
Cheers
Ash
