I've had one of those  days at work. I came home and had a bit of a  with the gf (my fault I suppose :( ) So decided to go out and make some photographs.

The minimalism thing is still rattling around in my head

couple more on my flickr (needs the hits to catch up with stevegreen ;) )

They're all a bit cheesy postcard, but as a quick pick-me-up after a  day, making photographs of sunsets and water can't be beaten.

You've started something there! How about walking down the corridors with a boom box on your shoulder for some "radio" therapy?

Some lovely colour and clarity in those shots liquid, number 3 reminds me of Half Life 2 for some reason.

You should have a bad day more often, it seems to encourage good photography!

If this is what can happen when you have a falling out with the better half, I'm kicking off as soon as she gets home.
Now, what can I do to REALLY do her nut?

Needed some more therapy this evening, so reverted to type and returned to the coast. I'm much happier where I can see the sea

Returned to the spot I found a couple of weeks ago. It was pretty wild out there tonight, probably should have stayed in with the gf - I have an awful cold brewing. :(

    Superb pictures again Liquid :smashin:
I wondered how long exposures would look on rough seas. Gives them a very misty/steamy feel. I love the colour in the second shot but it's the first one that does the biz for me due to the excellent composition and detail in the cliff.
    Fantastic work

They should all have it embedded, or you can get it from my flickr.

    But they're all D50 with Sigma 20mm F1.8

    The first is 25 seconds @ f22 - ISO 200

Amazing shots again liquid, #3 for me as I want to know what's over the ladder.

You seem to have your own personal style now to the point where I know it's one of your shots before looking at the posters name

Well I find these therapeutic to look at, so I can only imagine what it would be like to be there.
Unfortunately I live about one and a half hours drive from the coast and even then it doesn't really have cliffs/rocks - it does have dunes though - miles of dunes. Looking forward to going there with my camera for the first time.

We keep thinking of moving to the Aberystwyth area actually - quite an alternative community there and also a nice veggie restaurant which I've frequented a few times. Bit cheaper than here too.

To be honest, these photographs make the whole thing look rather calm, it was in fact very stormy and wild, and a good deal darker than it appears. There were wonderful reflections on the water, which have been lost in the long exposures.

Personally, I couldn't live away from the sea, and this area is a really lovely place to live and bring up a family.

I can see youre much happier where you can see the sea ..too:D

You did say it was wild but it doesnt quite appear so TBH
    A couple of questions

Did you use a Slightly lower shutter to give the sea its "creamy look"?

That being the case, ( if it was) you said it was dark .What PP have you applied to correct that?

Lastly, the colours are almost HDR like, How much tweaking did you do??

The shutter for first and last was 25 seconds which gives the creamy water effect. The waves were actually crashing in quite hard and the wind was blowing to the point where I was kneeling and holding onto the tripod.

For 2 and 3 I used bulb mode for about 45 seconds. For the second shot which appears so calm, the waves were crashing in quite close; over the tripod legs on a couple of occassions.

They were all made between about 9.15 - 9.30ish so it was quite dark. I took my meter reading from the rock to ensure I got some detail. Post processing was limited to some dodging and buring and mild hdr (Using RAW exposures on different layers) to bring out some more sky detail. The colour is pretty much as it came out of camera, just a mild tweak.

Thinking about it, the 3rd one was made from 2 seperate exposures, combined in photoshop.

I actually want to capture the same scene with a couple of flash guns in wireless mode, to capture the waves properly. Maybe next time.
