I am looking for a way to make sure that we get at least the people entering the competition voting, but need some feedback before I implement any rulings.

There is a limit of two choices here:

    1. Implement a rule that if someone enters a photo to the competition, they must vote for another. If they do not then any votes gained for their entry will be lost.

    2. Extend the voting period. This will of course shorten the amount of time people have to submit an entry.

I'll pop those two choices in a poll and see where people stand.

Of course, any other suggestions are welcome!

I've voted for 1 Steve. How about only people who voted in, say, the July comp can enter the August comp and so on..?

Voted for one, basically voting should be compulsorily for everybody who takes part. If a votes not cast, then that persons entry should become void.

I don't fancy doing all the checking on that one

I think option 1 is an easy one to control.

Still trying to get my head around the image size bit. I have no problems using image size in Photoshop for printing, but not sure on what size they need to be for the forum. :suicide:

My suggestion is to make it easier to view the entries.

Seans was visible in the comp thread. Everyone elses' involved a series of clicks that casual viewers would not bother with. Thumbnail page helps but you can't judge on thumbnails.

Can't we reference an attachment to the forums back into a thread so its visible full size? even if only for the comp thread?

Actually Stuart as sorted it so the files are resized to fit the forum, you just need to upload them and they'll be risized to fit (only for the comp though). But personally iprefer PS

    Ok try this Ash,

Open up a photo, resize it to 700x467, click save as, and reduce the quality untill it's below 120kb. That's it mate, post one here to try it .Max file size for the forum is 120kb. Actually Stuart as sorted it so the files are resized to fit the forum, you just need to upload them

Or if you have web space, just image link it. So you can have better res

I'm open to any ideas me but stuart has the last word, i'll even use my space to image link the entries if people would like that.

The first option for me as well mate. I don't get the time to make comments for the photos but it only takes a few minutes to vote.

Number 1 for me as well. If you enter but don't vote you can't win! Sounds fair to me (especially as this increases my chances of winning  )

Just to be different I think option number 2.
I intended to vote this month on the Friday but the site was too slow and therefore thought I'd do it later. It slipped my mind and I then tried to vote on the Monday to find it was too late.
Its resonable not to allow someone to win if they don't vote but I think banning them from the next months competition is a bit harsh.
There are going to be times when people genuinly can't get to a PC to vote in the small amount of time available, especially if it also includes a weekend.
More time to vote would be my preference but I think I may be outnumbered :)

Right, I have taken into account the poll results so far and have launched the August competition.

I have landed somewhere in the middle of the opinions here and extended the voting a small amount and will be adding a new guideline shortly. It will read:

To ensure as many votes as possible, if a member enters a picture to the competition but does not vote for another then any votes accrued for that member will be discounted.

    Any thoughts?
