I currently have my PC connected to my stereo so that the sound comes out of my stereo speakers, but I want to add in a set of PC speakers so that I can listen to a CD on my stereo and still have PC sound at the same time. Another reason is that my stereo is on the left of my desk so the sound is always off to one side rather than central to where Im looking at my PC monitor.

I imagine I need some kind of switchbox so I can either direct my PC sound output to either my stereo or my PC speakers, but I can't seem to find one online that looks right?!

Just drew a quick diagram on paint to try and show what I want to do, the question mark represents the bit Im confused about, hope it makes sense...

Does anyone know where I can get the thing Im after?

Just use a jack splitter at the pc and leave both connected, just turn off one when you dont want to use it. Try someone like CPC or ARD Electronics, the bits are pennies.

If I use another jack splitter or a pair of cable splitters, wont that split the left and right channels again? So that the left channel will go to my stereo and the right channel will go to my desktop speakers?

    Im so confused

Once you've split the left and right, use one from each splt to go to the device.

Your 3.5 mm jack just changes the format from your PC co-ax 3.5mm to separate Right and Left - Red = right, White or Black = Left.
The cable splitters mentioned are just like 'Y' connections - one for Left and one for Right.
