I'm looking for new mobile to replace my Samsung S4 Mini (which I was quite happy with)

    It needs:
    Good camera
    Decent browser speed
    Good battery life
    Looks good

Thinking any of these or their mini versions

    Samsung S5 (and S5 Mini)
    Samsung A5
Sony xperia Z3 (and Z3 Compact)
    LG G3
    HTM One M8 (and M8S)

Can't really afford the new versions of these (S6, Z4, M9, G4). Are the larger versions significantly better? Any suggestions, pointers, recommendations or alternatives?

    Wlecome to AVF :hiya:

Check out the Chinese phone equivalents if you want good battery life and good looks at a low cost. The Lenovo P780 lasts days and can be had under 100 squid new. Has an 8MB camera, 4,000mAh battery and good build quality with IPS screen and metal back.

Wouldn't worrry about the browser, you can install whichever one you like. UC Mini is good and fast on even middle tier handsets.

Of those you've listed, the Z3 compact blows everything away and ticks every box.

Thanks for this. I was tempted by the Z3 compact. What do you know about the One Plus One phone? Any good? I'll have a look at the Lenovo.

The OnePlus One is a great spec phone let down with average battery life. It's much, much bigger than the S4 Mini and the massive 5.5" screen slurps up the juice so it'll need recharging every day unless you're a very light user. Also check out Huawei which are the best known Chinese brand and make lovely premium handsets much cheaper than the bigger players.
