Just discovered I can pick up a cheap Marantz 5000 CD player. Does anyone know if it will be a noticeable improvement over my Phillips CD753?

    Cheers,

    Ross

Unfortunately that's not an option so I thought I'd ask on here to see if anyone knew anything about either player.

    Cheers.

They are extremely similar internally so they are not going to be too different. I guess it depends on how cheap it is.

marantz are owned by Phillips, correct?

Reason I mention this, they might use some of the same parts.

Marantz and Denon are now in partnership, independent from Philips, but the budget cd/dvd players are still based on Philips' models.

    I bought a 753 a few years ago and demo'd against a 5000 - they sounded identical, however a cd6000 was a definite improvement.
