I have just purchased a Phillips 42PF9966 on the basis that, with a HDCP compliant DVI connection and 720p / 1080i display resolution, it should be suitable for use with the Sky's 2006 HD service.

I phoned Phillips Customer Care to ask if these resolution's were 50Hz or 60Hz (apparently Sky will be braodcasting in 50Hz) and got met with silence on the end of the phone. I couldn't get a sensible answer out of them.

Anyone got any ideas if I have just spent £2,500 on a TV that won't do what I thought ??

    From the philips website

    Supported Display Resolution
    Computer formats : 640 x 480, 60HZ, 800 x 600, 60HZ
    Video formats : 1920 x 1080i - 2Fh, 640 x 480i - 1Fh, 640 x 480p - 2Fh, 720 x 576i - 1Fh, 720 x 576p - 2Fh

So it look like it isn't going to be compatible..

The 60Hz refers to the computer format. Do you think this also applies to the video format?

as it is an ALis Panel, i think it unlikely that it will work with 720p which is what sky broadcast, better take it back and get a pio 435XDE or wait for panny PV500

The best signal the 42" 9966 can take is 576p (a progressive PAL emission or a regular DVD progressive playing). No HD formats. Probably you will watch HD emissions, but downscaled to 576p.

Even the 50", which accepts 720p, downscales it to 576 in order to apply pixelplus2. On HD emissions, probably pp2 hurt more than help.

    GameFreak, 7tennyson,

GameFreak and I already discussed some things privately. And I have some news.

It seems that the 42" is also capable of doing component via the DVI/VGA. But only if you have software version 2.0 or higher. So ask your technical service support to upgrade the software and get any vga (hd15)-3rca to use component: example -- http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...u=292684&is=REGcan do this for you.

And 720p is not supported. Maybe they did something in de upgrade for the 50/60hz and 720p.

The PIP thing, I have no news yet.

    Greetz,
    Lem

Hornydragon, I have taken your advise and cancelled my order for the Phillips. I have decided on either the Pioneer PDP-435FDE or the PDP-435XDE.

Richer Sounds are doing a fairly good deal on the 435FDE at the moment so I think I might pay them a visit.

the FDE is a basic cut version of the XDE, the XDE at £2700 is worth the money......until the PV500 is out............

anymore info whether this will be sky hd ready?? I really like the look of this tv, much nicer than the pv500. Really need to know if this will work as purchase imminent at the end of the week.
