Hi, my ageing Philips S-VHS VCR has developed a fault where it won't record audio, but will record video (records both VHS and S-VHS pictures very well).
When you make a recording and play it back, you can still hear the audio of the previous recording made on the cassette in mono (tracking has no effect).

When I play back recordings made on another NICAM VCR, these are played back fine in stereo with the Hifi Left & Right indicators lit, so I'm guessing it could have something to do with the Erase head, or the circuit that controls audio to the heads. I have also noticed that on another previous recording there is a gradual deterioration in the recorded Hi-Fi stereo audio until later on where it starts to flicker in and out of the mono sound from the old recording, and the Hi-Fi track of the new recording. Later recordings produce no recorded audio at all so I suspect component failure. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be? Help most appreciated.
