Price for the philips at Richer sounds including docking station is
£185. Price of the Marantz at another dealer is £330.
Apart from the Pc cable and I think you also get a CD rom with
the Marantz, what are the differences between the two?
I downloaded the technical specs. on both models from the
Marantz and Philips websites they appear identical. Am I missing
something obvious, as there's a big price differential?
I assume you can buy the PC cable and CD Rom for the Philips?
    regards,
    G.M.

    both are the same unit.

Except the pronto has a few inbuilt codes, you also get the PC-cable with the pronto, but you have to download the software.

I also think the RC5000i, has a couple of different functions on the "hard-buttons"

    goto www.remotecentral.com for a comparison

mjn, thanks for the link.Looks like I'll be buying the Philips.
Apart from having a warranty that's two years longer the Marantz
doesn't offer anything extra. In fact, it misses out on one of the main features I was looking for, a built in timer.
Even if I was paying the full price of £250+£50 for the docking station it's still £30 cheaper than the Marantz, can't understand
    Marantz's logic.
Is the docking station still available from Richer sounds, had a
look at another thread and it said some stations had a problem with pins melting?
    regards,
    G.M.

That is very expensive for the RC5000i. The gap is normally only slightly more expensive for the marrantz.

Personally, i went for the marrantz as i wanted the jump to option and the control of the back/forward buttons.

Hows the jump to feature work, I mean in what senario do you use it? Also the control of the forward/backward buttons?

Im in the market still for a remote, bought the rc1200 today for 30 squid cause I cant make my mind up which remote to get so this is a stop gap!

'Phoned Philips today, woman I spoke to admitted they'd had a problem with some docking stations melting pins, put it down to a faulty batch. Richer sounds have sold out of the docking station hoping to get more in shortly.
