    Hi everyone,
Looking to buy a new tv and wondered if it was worth spending more on the Sony. I will be using it mostly for general tv viewing, ie HD, watching films and sport with some Netflix and occasional gaming on an xbox one

I love ambilight, I feel like it makes a huge difference to certain stuff, gaming especially.

I'm also very critical of picture quality, this is relevant because a close relative of mine can't tell the difference between VHS and blu ray, so for them it surely isn't worth buying an expensive TV.

Of those two, I'd go with the Sony (and I'd really miss ambilight)

If you can, put a couple of varied clips you know well onto USB, call the local store and arrange a demo - you can't demo day to day use, but it gives a good idea.

Thanks Mane UK, that's what I think I'll get.

As an alternative check out last years Philips oled the 9002. Its 55 inches, and the price has almost dropped to the Sony xf9005 range - maybe a black Friday deal...

It has issues (mostly due to freeview certification causing lack of updates and lack of catch up apps, oh and input selection via harmony remote) but if you're feeding it from an Xbox or other external device its an amazing screen.
