It finally arrived.....my long awaited freebie!!! But how to connect it?

I have only one component video input on my plasma, which I used to have the DVD player connected. I have had to remove the DVD player and plug in the Set top box in it's place, and downgrade my DVD connection to S-video. The Set top box has a VGA output, and the plasma has the VGA input, but I am wondering if the VGA connection will be better or worse than component connection?

The Settop box has two switches on the rear where one sets the TV type (SD, HD1 and HD2) and the other the mode (M1, M2, M3). What settings am I supposed to use here??? I read through the manual, and I got to say it's terrible. Who ever did the translation to English needs to go back to school!

    Any help would be appreciated.....

    Hi,

I would expect the VGA connection to be equal to, or better than, the component video connection to your plasma. I'm sorry I can't help with the different settings - I guess it will be a case of trial and error. By the way, where are you located and what is the model number of the STB?

I haven't really noticed....as wierd as that may sound....I think its a D70??? Its fairly new, and is supposed to be one of the best STB's on the market. Retails in OZ for around $900.

I connected it via the VGA port last night, and it looks as good as the component connection. The only problem I have is that there is only one audio input on the TV, so I have to run the surround amp all the time to watch DVD's which is abit annoying.
