What are all these horror stories about firmware upgrades screwing up peoples machines? I have a upgrade coming from Philips that will give my US made DVDR985 sp+, ep+, mp3 record & play modes. Are the people having problems downloading and burning firmware from the internet or what? If I do a firmware upgrade and I have problems can I revert back to a older firmware version?

Ive upgraded my Philips DVDR880 this morning, no problems atall. Downloaded and burnt the CD myself.
Prior to that, years ago I got the firmware for my old Philips DVD825 and upgraded that.
It doesnt really worry me to be honest, It would be back to the shop for a replacement if anything went wrong....despite what Philips say......"firmware, whats that ?, no, I didnt do anything like that."
