    Hi Moondust
I have the 5980 & have no problems with using USB drive, not sure about your problem could it be your USB stick:confused:

Having had this player since the beginning of the year i can confirm that mine played divx files perfectly from the usb, either from portable hd or usb stick.

I did read somewhere that the manufacturer of the usb stick could make a huge difference and also you may need to make sure it's formatted to fat32.

My player also supported packed bitstream straight out of the box, should be no need for a firmware upgrade or to use mp4 modifier to fix this particular problem.

This is a great player for less than £50, i only upgraded due to buying a new tv and wanting a home cinema system.

Mine didn't and I only got it a week ago, was running the latest firmware too (12.06.36.40). Packed bitstreams were jerky when the camera panned, using a 3rd party firmware it's smooth.
