I'm trying to archive recordings from Sky+ HDD to my Philips DVDR75. I'm using Scart from Sky VCR output to EXT 2 on the recorder, but can only get black & white playback.
I'm obviously not as clever as I thought I was, any ideas?

Re-wire your setup so as to use the TV Output so you can record in RGB. Connect this to EXT2 and then EXT1 to your TV. Ensure all menu options are set to RGB (TV/Sky/DVD recorder).

    Many thanks.
If I route the signal in this way, instead of directly to the TV, will there be any detraction in the picture quality for general viewing?

Not when the machine is in standby - the picture is just looping through. A 'feature' of Philips DVD recorders though is that when the machine is on it will re-encode the picture whether you are recording or not - this will cause a slight delay and, depending on the quality mode selected, there will be some picture loss. The simple solution is not to have the unit on if not recording!
